Türk on violence in Al-Faschir: The international community has failed
The pools of blood can be seen from space and people in the Sudanese city of Al-Faschir are being forced to have to eat animal feed in order to survive: An angry UN High Commissioner Türk blames the international community.

Geneva (dpa) - The international community has unanimously condemned the widespread violence inflicted by RSF militias in the Sudanese city of El Fasher.
A resolution on the issue came at an emergency meeting of the UN Human Rights Council which was however only passed with reservations from several countries.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, accused the international community of failure. He said it had failed to protect the people despite numerous warnings.
The resolution condemns the violence, calls for more humanitarian support, and mandates the Council's existing commission of inquiry to investigate the events in Al-Faschir in north-eastern Africa and identify human rights violators so that they can be held accountable.
However, Sudan, China and other countries noted their rejection of the paragraphs on the commission of inquiry. China, for example, always insists that countries should always regulate their own internal affairs and that no international commissions should be set up for this purpose.
Türk blames international community
Refugees from Al-Faschir report devastating conditions involving murder, violence, torture, rape and looting in the city and during their flight. The militias took the city in October after months of siege.
‘The pools of blood in Al-Faschir have been photographed from space. The stain on the international community's reputation is less visible, but no less reprehensible,’ said Türk. He called on all countries with influence in Sudan to work to end the violence.
"Sudan is embroiled in a proxy war over its natural resources and raw materials," said Türk. "Numerous countries in the region and beyond are involved. (...) The international community must take action against the individuals and companies that are fuelling this war and profiting from it."
