Who can keep a journalistic eye on the whole world? Even for large organisations with many reporters, photographers, and editors, this is a challenge. 

It becomes easier when strong partners join forces and tackle this goal together—just as the participating news agencies have done with the Democracy News Alliance.

Agence France-Presse
With around 2,600 employees from about 100 nations, AFP is a globally operating agency headquartered in Paris, France. It reports on world events around the clock in various formats (text, photo, video, audio, infographics) and in six languages (French, English, German, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese). (www.afp.com)

Agenzia Nazionale Stampa Associata
ANSA is a cooperative headquartered in Rome, Italy, comprising 31 publishing companies. 22 offices in its home country as well as offices in 90 other countries produce multimedia content in six languages (Italian, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, German). (www.ansa.it)

The Canadian Press
CP, headquartered in Toronto, Canada, creates multimedia content in English and French for online, mobile, and new platforms. 225 journalists produce texts, photos, graphics, audio content, and online videos. (www.thecanadianpress.com)

dpa Deutsche Presse-Agentur
dpa, with its corporate headquarters in Hamburg, Germany, and central editorial office in Berlin, Germany, is the consortium leader of the Democracy News Alliance. The agency provides editorial content (texts, photos, videos, graphics, radio segments, and other formats) in seven languages. Around 1,000 journalists work at around 140 locations. PA Media
Founded as Press Association (PA) in 1870 by regional newspaper publishers, PA Media, headquartered in London, is the national news agency for the United Kingdom and Ireland. Alongside PA Images and PA Training, there are other specialized companies in the group. (https://pamediagroup.com)

Founded in 1846 and headquartered in New York City, USA, AP provides reporting in all media formats. Four billion people see AP journalism daily, and AP journalists work in nearly 100 countries and all 50 US states. (www.ap.org)

With their reporters, the agencies contributing to DNA content are represented in combined more than 115 countries on all continents. In many other countries, additional freelance staff, known as stringers, work for the agencies. Their permanent foreign correspondents report from more than 140 cities worldwide. In addition, the contributing agencies have many domestic locations in their home markets, from Glasgow and Genoa to Calgary and Chicago, all the way to Lyon and Leipzig.

The news agencies continuously monitor world events and report in a multimedia, 24/7 mode. The editorial team of the Democracy News Alliance website draws on this content, combines it, and supplements it with the results of its own research and interviews. There are also further in-depth analyses and reports from the agencies’ foreign correspondents, produced exclusively for this DNA website.
