Trump urges Xi to release jailed Hong Kong media tycoon Jimmy Lai

China's foreign ministry is unlikely to heed a call from US President Donald Trump to release imprisoned media tycoon Jimmy Lai. So far China has dismissed criticism of the jailing as a "brazen defamation and smearing of the judicial system in Hong Kong".
