El Salvador issues 1,048-year sentences to gang members

Congress in El Salvador has abolished a 60-year maximum prison term, and the courts have begun imposing huge sentences. They come as President Bukele cracks down on gangs involved in drug-trafficking and money-laundering. He has the backing of US President Donald Trump.
