Syrian court sentences Bashar al-Assad in absentia to death

A Syrian court has sentenced Bashar al-Assad to death in absentia over crimes against humanity, while his cousin, former general Atef Najib, received the same sentence in court. It is a historic verdict, but the ousted president remains beyond reach in Russia.
